Elite is a relative term, and always will be. There will always be elite players and elite groups, because they are defined by their contemporaries, not by some abstract ideal of the term.

If I'm ranking defensemen, or really any player, it's based on their ability to help their team win. Those players are more effective than McDonagh at that.
