I think if Niese has a season next year like he had last season, then he will have a lot of trade value should they choose to deal him. Plus, they'd still have whichever out of Niese/Gee they didn't deal as depth.

It still remains to be seen whether the Wilpons are willing to spend the cash necessary to seriously contend. It's a big if, and if they're not, then we're wasting our time. But if the Wilpons are actually willing to spend and land those two outfielders, then the lineup will already have Wright, Flores, d'Arnaud, Ellsbury, and Choo. If they flip one of Gee or Niese for a strong, not superstar, caliber bat, then that's probably a good enough lineup to contend with the kind of pitching we'd have.
