Possibly, but this kind of a deal has a greater potential to make Muckler look more like Mad Mike in NY. It's serious overpayment for a team such as Ottawa to make. They do not live through free agency but rather their drafting. And while the Sens do have a very solid record when it comes to drafting players, most of the players they have picked were picked by a scouting staff that is no longer in Ottawa.

Besides, Ottawa would have a tough time bringing in a $6 million salary when negotiations to make Alfredsson the highest player on the team are on going. Suddenly their payroll would jump next season by at least 12 million - assuming there is a next season.
