Ducharme is really a bad choice for someone not good at french. Is playing with word and have a style of is own. From Quebec, I think something like
Chronique de la dérive douce
of Laferrière would be a better choice.
For people more fluent in french, I hightly recommend

Le petite fille qui aimait trop les allumettes
