St. Louis invite Ryan Whitney to Training Camp [Now confirmed]

per Andy Strickland

Doug Armstrong hints #stlblues will likely add a Dman on a pro tryout in camp if Alex Pietrangelo remains unsigned.

Main reason is to have proper D-man numbers to run camp practices and need another veteran to meet pre-season roster requirements #stlblues

Makes sense for both sides. If Whitney pressures Pietrangelo into coming in at slightly less than he'd hoped for, it's a win for St. Louis. If Pietangelo doesn't bite and Whitney earns a contract, it's a win for Whitney.

EDIT: Now confirmed by the Blues

The Blues have invited defenseman Ryan Whitney to training camp as a professional tryout.

Whitney is a free agent and most recently played for the Edmonton Oilers. Last season, he played in 34 games with Edmonton, tallying four goals and nine assists (13 points). He had a minus-7 rating.

For his career, Whitney has played in 474 NHL games, registering 50 goals and 209 assists (259 points).

Whitney's addition gives the Blues 51 players to start Training Camp.
