Best thing Calgary can do is sell off veterans the next 2 years and stockpile prospects and picks. A core of Cammalleri Hudler Glencross Wideman Giordano Ramo is as bad as it gets.
Calgary has a lot better prospects and young players then Toronto did when Burke took over. They likely won't be very good this season but if they trade a few vets for picks and prospects plus their own picks, they should be looking upward from there.
With the cap system there is very little benefit to doing what Edmonton did, which is tanking for 5 years. A couple of years is all you need if you have a handful of good prospects in your system like Baertschi.
