IF they were to hit a stalemate and decide to accept offer sheets, you don't think many teams would use the 10% cushion then ditch the needed salary to make it happen?? The Flyers would sign him to a sheet tomorrow and would deal salary (Coburn +) for draft picks to make it work. There's always a way when a player of Pietrangelo's caliber is on the table. Don't kid yourself. Right now, teams are licking their chops hoping talks get ugly between the Blues and Pietrangelo. The fact that the Blues are on the verge of letting camp open without him signed is troubling. Holdouts and missed camps don't do anybody any good. If this is ONLY over $1 mil (as being reported) then Doug Armstrong should be canned immediately.
Who is able to take on salary right now? You have a guy like JML signed to a reasonable deal, and the Leafs cannot seem to find a taker. With the new CBA closing the AHL/Europe loophole, therr doesnt seem to be a way to hide contracts.

If a team were to do it, they not only have to give up 4 1sts to STL, they would have to move other quality assets to clear the cap space. Just does not seem like a good option right now.
