PHILADELPHIA — Simon Gagne said Saturday he regretted comments made earlier in the week to a reporter for the Montreal French-language newspaper La Presse that were critical of Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren, and detailed Gagne’s opinion that he was wronged by the organization.

In the article, which caused a bit of a stir over the weekend when an English translation of the story was posted on an “unofficial fansite” entitled, Gagne is quoted as saying Holmgren’s reported contract offer to fellow unrestricted free agent Dan Cleary “was like a slap in the face.”

Saying he didn’t “like to (say) stuff like that,” Gagne pointed out he was “willing to go to the camp as a tryout at the end.

“Maybe I regretted a little bit that I said (that), because I’ve got too much respect (for) the Flyers,” Gagne said in the text. “But it was not a good day for me.”
