It shouldn't have happen. It was a bush league move for a gamut of reasons. And I don't think that Roy was as significant as Dryden, nor Lach and Bouchard as any of the other wonderful players in our past.
The Gainey era got a bit too hung up on itself and culminated in the poop sandwich which was the centennial year. The only retired number I fully supported with no argument was Robinson's.
