As a rule Am stations high up on the dial simply do not carry very well...especially at night when they cut the signal.
Try tuning into 1260 after dark....very inconsistent an hour out of the city.
It will never be at the quality the CHED signal is unless they move down the dial below 1000 kHz. The lower the better.

I would be very surprised if they did that though.
