I would keep Smyth where he is for the time being. At the same time, the fact that he actually showed some jump for 1 game doesn't make up for the past year and a half of absolute garbage. It also raises questions as to why he wasn't skating hard before the scratch.

As I said before, Smyth is at most a complementary top 6 player. He has no game and no tools to play in the bottom 6, and was terrible all of last year in that role. He loses puck battles constantly (spends more time on his butt than Gagner), and is too slow to establish a forecheck. None of these problems are going to go away. 38 year old players don't get better, they continue to decline.

As soon as he stops producing, Yak should be back up in the top 6. In the meantime, they should try Yak on the 3rd or 4th line and sit Brown.
