As a beginner, am I going to be hindering my ability to progress by playing with a stick that has a flex that is much too high for me?

When I started playing I ended up being given a Warrior dynasty pro stock with a W03 blade that had been cut down about 8", it was a great height for me, not so much for its previous owner. While I like everything about this stick (I also have a widow with a burrows curve that I pretty much hate), my stickhandling and puck feel are improving, and my shots and passes are reasonably accurate for a beginner, I have no power. I'm 5'5, 165lbs, I'll never be able to utilize a flex of approximately 140 ( assuming +10 flex for every 2" cut off).

So, my question is, do I keep working on technique with a stick I like but has an inappropriate flex, or will I improve faster ( or with better technique) by moving to a similar stick with a more realistic flex now?
