Even if that team were performing as a playoff team like even the most homer-like NJ fans predicted they don't have the roster nor play-style to win it all. Teams like Phoenix and Nashville and now NJ adopt the scoring by committee philosophy to stay competitive despite lacking extremely in top-end talent and game-breaking talent but that will never win you a Cup or at least not most of the time.
On top of that all they don't have a first rounder because of the Kovalchuk contract. They don't have a top prospect group either so the present and future both look bleak for them right now. At least we'll be fine for the future even if this season fails and at least Buffalo has a great young group and just needs a top-end talent or two.
Also, with their loss tonight it's the first time in franchise history they've started off a season by losing the first six.
Yet, I feel no sympathy for the Devils...
