If they can not play anymore, they should be allowed to mutually void the contract at the approval of NHL doctors. It makes no sense to make them fly around at the risk of their own health to see doctors if they can never play again, especially if it negatively affects their health.
35+ contract rules were implemented to prevent exactly what happened with Pronger.
Who signs a 35+ player to a seven year contract? If you're dumb enough to lock into a contract fo that long with an old man, you deserve the woes you'll get when that player inevitably can't play anymore.
The Flyers were circumventing the cap by extending Pronger for as long as they did and now they're paying for it. Fair game, to me.
