I get what you are doing because I agree, the team needs a player like Downie or Clifford, but I don't think that is the correct deal, that's all.
That's one reason why I'd want more than just Downie but Downie could also bring other intangibles and MDZ doesn't have much of in that regard. Downie potentially does for the Rangers what Sean Avery did for them when he first came to Broadway. He makes them a harder not so much fun team to play against--just because of the 'I'm an a**hole factor'.

MDZ is average defensively left side--tries to play physical but is not very strong and his offensive game doesn't appear to be improving. There's no real intangibles there. He's never going to be great defensively because of his size, skating and his proneness to cough up pucks. Where he can improve is on the stat sheet and 5 seasons after his rookie year--there's no real improvement from then to now.
