Are the Oilers the worst team in N.A. professional sports over the past 5 years?

To answer the OP, yes, the Oilers have been an absolute embarrassment. They're supposed to be heading where Chicago is but that we all know how that is going.
A team that boasts three 1st overall players should NOT be bad.
The last three 1st overall picks before Hall were: Tavares, Stamkos and Kane. Now imagine those 3 guys on the same team.
The Oilers' losing culture has ruined Hall, RNH and Yakupov and its because of Tambellini's lack of effort to go after a stud defencemen.
When Ryan Suter was a free agent, Tambellini openly stated that he did not even go after him. We probably wouldn't have got him anyways but it would have been nice to know that an effort was made.
I think Ryan Suter had his mind made up from the get go.
Plus we've seen enough failures in whale hunting over the past 6 years or so.
