A crease clearing defensemen that can also play the PP is hard to find. If you need someone to fill desjardins shoes, you need a versatile player that plays in all situations and can play a lot of minutes. Markov was their #1 dman and can play in all situations and he is still young.

Believe me I don't love this trade from an emotional point of view since I was really a Willy fan but it comes down to production and he hasn't improved in 3 years. He has good skills and hustle but is just too small and gets pushed out too easily. Getting a solid d-man that can play all situations is not easy and they had to pay to get it. I don't like getting rid of Willy but they definitely filled a need.
