I'd say sign Steckel, but use the fact that he's not necessarily an offensive machine as leverage to give him no more than 75% of the max rookie deal.

Also, if Ally doesn't play at all this year, what team would want to risk signing him for mass millions next year? If Ally doesn't play and I'm DT, I'd be looking to offer Ally a 2 year deal @ 2 million a year but with incentives based upon point production that *could* get Ally up to 7 millon a year (assuming he reaches 90 points & the Kings reach the final 4 next season........if there IS even a next season!). If not, then Ally can leave and we'd have that much more $$$ in the budget for all these young dudes.
