The idea of the UFA sign-and-trade is a fan pipe-dream. In reality, it's pretty much impossible to do without ruining your reputation among players and their agents. It's never happened in the NHL, with the exception of a couple of cases involving players making near league minimum.
Ottawa has a tendancy of waiting for a players contract to run out before going into negotiations which IMO is wrong, and has cost us.
