One of the problems I think is the Rangers only have 4 college prospects--4 CHL prospects and 3 European prospects (unless you want to count Pashnin--then you have 4 of them as well). Most teams have a lot more. Of those only Skjei and Nieves are really high draft picks and both of them need more development at their level--not ready really for the next level. Duclair and Buchnevich both have a lot of upside but they're both a ways away too. After that everyone is a ? mark. So there is definitely a lack of depth at the non-professional level.

At the Ahl/Nhl level there's Kreider and Miller.

At the Ahl level there's Kristo, Lindberg and Fast and Hrivik both of whom have had a hard time staying healthy--Yogan, Mashinter bottom line types maybe.

McIlrath and Allen on D--and that's about it.

Talbot doesn't count anymore. He's 26 years old.

Prospect wise the Rangers aren't that deep. OTOH we have a number of guys on our team who could be on that list--Stepan (23), Hagelin (25), McDonagh (24) Del Zotto (23) and Moore (23) with Kreider (22) on the verge and Miller (20) a little less so. In the next couple years Lindberg, Kristo, Fast, McIlrath should all join them. So there is a wave coming but behind that wave what appears to be a smaller wave. IMO Rangers should hold on to their higher draft picks the next couple years anyway.
