I figured most of the fans would be to the north, but it's still about the spoke and hub aspect of a downtown stadium/arena. Almost no one that goes to the games lives near the Penguins (or Pirates or Steelers for that matter), but it's central location means you don't have large pockets of the fan base stuck with a 2 hour drive on weeknights to get to the games. Atlanta should be able to handle this much better than Tampa, as they have an established fanbase and is just a much larger area in general, but the Rays attendance issues attracting fans from Tampa itself always has me worrying about suburban stadiums (and the obvious issues associated with suburban hockey arenas).
