Like I mentioned, my team this summer hired a coach to do some practices for us a half dozen times. He offered to coach us behind the bench for a game, and we played very well. Because he couldn't give us a bunch of info beforehand, he kept it simple:

1. Skate up and down the ice as hard as you can. Up and down i.e. north-south. If you are moving fast, you are forcing turnovers, not giving up rushes, etc.

2. If your team doesn't have the puck, you are on defense. This means defensemen aren't pinching or taking risks and forwards again are coming back into the zone quickly. No cherry picking!

3. Short shifts, so you can do both of the above.

We ended up playing one of our best games ever and dominating the puck possession. Pretty simple advice too.
