So that means Sami was probably only a year or so old when he started skating???

That probably means that he was able "walk on the ice with the skates" when having someone to hold on to or a sledge or something. Ive seen many kids starting to learn to skate with their parents when they are not bigger than a fire extinguisher, but actual skating alone... don't think so. I think a kid of that age does not even have strong enough anckles yet to do that without support.

My daughter is at the moment 10 months old and on the verge of starting to stand alone. Walking with support is ok, but the balance has not developed enough yet, so after a month or two I think she could start learning to skate with support.
