Zherdev leaving the RSL for Columbus is becoming quite an international hockey mess. It may have an impact on future player movement from Russia. I know Kats is from Belarus, but plays in Russia. Does he have military obligations to honor before he comes this way?
The following link is a story about what's happening with the Zherdev/Columbus case. It's long and written about the politics and business of hockey. I generally avoid reading about these aspects of hockey, but wonder if it could impact Kats arrival in North America.

The NHL-IIHF agreement expires at the end of the season and Fasel is under tremendous pressure, particularly from the Russians, to get a massive increase in transfer fees. The buzz around the international hockey scene is that the Russians want $2 million per first rounder.
When it's all said and done, Zherdev's case will be a footnote for your average fan. But on a larger scale, his impact could be expensive and long-lasting.
