Groulx deserves a ton of credit in Budaj's development. Budaj had never had a goalie coach in his career in the NHL as the Avalanche's first full-time goalie coach was hired by Patrick Roy (Allaire). When he got here he was a bit of a mess, and you saw the improvement in his game late in his first season with Groulx and it carried into the shortened season last year. He's a lot more in control of his movements, though his rebound control is still pretty terrible it has improved leaps and bounds over where he was when he got to Montreal.

Groulx started as a video coach so I'm sure he broke down a lot of tape with Budaj and showed him holes in his game. Groulx has a pretty good track record with goalies who are seen more as athletic and less as technical goalies. Craig Anderson is another guy who benefitted greatly from Groulx, and he's another guy who's more athletic than technical (in comparison to a Price or Lundqvist for example).

With Price you can tell Waite had a much bigger influence on his game than Groulx.
