This tourney's enough to vault EJ from top 5 pick to consensus #1, and to help precipitate Kessel's fall in the rankings last year after - ironic, since it also boosted him to the top of his draft class the year before.

It's not the be-all and end-all, but it has a significant bearing on where a player is chosen at the draft, and is a great barometer of how well a kid can adapt to a higher level of competition.

Like many here, I don't have the opportunity to watch prospects extensively in the junior ranks, and the WJC's are often my first exposure to some top young players, particularly those on the other side of the pond. That said, I try to take this series with a grain of salt, knowing that you can't judge a player completely based on one two-week event.
