Just for the sake of friendly debate, I'll suggest that an enforcer shouldn't be judged only by the number of fights in which he engages. Are his teammates, especially the team's top players, getting taken advantage of, being cheapshotted frequently?

If the answer is no, then I'd suggest that the enforcer is doing his job. (Otherwise, no.) Clark Gillies never had 100 penalty minutes in an NHL season but was widely regarded as the toughest guy in the league for years.
