There is always things that pull against each other in the minors.

1) Want to develop young players.

2) Coach wants to have a good record because most minor league coaches have aspirations for the NHL. As much as one would like to look at a minor league coach just for how he develops young players, wins, losses and championships matter.

3) Want the minor league team to be good so that they draw and make money or don't lose a lot.

The oilers are always concerned with the last one. The coaches are concerned with the 2nd one. Not enough is done about the 1st one.
