apparently it is both. Phoenix fans (including myself) had heard it was strictly a team option. Actually the clause may have changed when Phoenix renegotiated the extension at the expense of his no-trade clause. Regardless, Phoenix might be better suited to simply do nothing with Burke. If all they are going to receive is a mediocre prospect or a mid round pick then why trade him at all. Cash flow has improved greatly for this team and dumping him might do more harm to their financial bottom line than any benefit they would receive from the assets involved in a transaction.

Hackett has also apparently gone down indefinately. Regardless, Flyer fans have to be a little nervous with the possibility of Hacket occupying a playoff roster spot. Will he be an asset or a liability.

With the Rangers in what appears to be full panic mode with an injured goalie in Dunham with a concussion there may yet be a goalie market developing. Phoenix can afford to wait to see if that happens.
