The the truth is firing trotz would not fix anything. Firing poile would not fix anything. The only thing that would fix this team is obtaining several new players who have the ability to score goals.
Whether that can be accomplished by Poile, and whether if those players are obtained they can be successfully coached by trotz is a matter for debate.
But the fact remains, that unless Wilson, Smith, and at least two other players become 20 to 30 goalscorers, this team will be mediocre at best. If the current players cannot improve on their own, they must be replaced. That process obviously takes a while and is unlikely to happen in 1 or even 2 years. It will be interesting to see if the owners have the patience to allow Poile to try to pull this off, or decide to clear the decks and give someone else a chance.
