IMO, the whole "Too young to play in the AHL" rule is just BS. When a player has nothing to learn in junior, but not good enough for the NHL yet, you send him to the minors. Yet there's a rule saying you have to be a certain age to play in the minors.

I think this rule is in place to ensure jobs for minor-league players, but it's really hindering the development of young players.

Even without this rule, the good hard-working veteran minor league player will still have jobs, simply because they bring veteran leadership and stability to minor-league dressing rooms.
