OK, my old boss is good friends with Don LaGreca (don't know how to spell it) and we were talking about the CBA and the Rangers this afternoon and I learned something interesting.
In 1992 71% of the NHLs gross earnings were spent on players salaries. Guess what it is today....
Forget marketing, advertising, leasing arenas, management etc. Thats just players salaries. When he asked me I said high 90's, but 217%!?!? That is unreal. The NHL needs to fold 5-6 teams and institue some sort of financial responsibility. I'm not sure a hard cap would work but NO business can be run like this!
