I can't see Bob Gainey loading up at the expense of a part of the future. That team is not a true contender, even though it is a playoff team. It is a work in progress, and he is moving in the right direction, as everyone knew he would. One of the best GMs out there. He won't make them a contender overnight, however.

The Caps want picks and prospects, and there are teams out there willing to hand over that return. The Canadiens will not be among them. For what it's worth, I think the going rate right now is surprisingly high for Bondra, and I'm a Caps fan. If I was another GM, I would consider the bidding excessive already, but I guess that is what certain teams will be willing to pay.

Bob Gainey will decline, and I think that is the right move for his team. His focus is on nurturing his own picks and prospects. This is not the Habs' year to be making a run.
