I started chewing when I was either 15 or 16, due to guys on my team doing it. I did it pretty regularly. On road trips and in the room with the guys, it was hard NOT to throw one in. It didn't help that our Coach was okay with it.
But after throwing down 2 tins during one weekend while at a tournament, I realized I needed to quit. I was developing some of the spots they mentioned in the article, and my gums were changing. A few guys I play with had their gums bleed from chewing so much. It took a few months to do it, but I haven't dipped in about 7 months.
The scary thing is, I'm only 17. Dip was one of the stupidest things I've ever gotten into.
