So far everyone has missed on the one thing that made this deal possible. Martin Cibak totally outplayed Svitov when the opportunity was given to both of them to make the team. Svitov is a highly rated prospect but when the Lightning gave him a couple of opportunities to show what he could do at the NHL level, he did basically nothing. Yeah he's only what 22? However, even though you're that young, you still have to show something, anything to prove you are worth the time and money to develop. I don't think he did much at all to say to the Lightning that he could be a player some day. You could factor in the Lightning's minor league situation also, but one thing Jay Feaster mentioned was that Ryan Craig has started to play well in Hershey so it not like the Lightning don't have young depth when it comes to centers.
