Sydor was having a train wreck of a season and was a big disappointment to a lot of fellow CBJ fans. A change of scenery, whether he asked for it or not, was probably in his best interests. We have a promising young defenseman named Aaron Johnson who MacLean would like to have a roster spot for next season, so this move seems to be made to that order. Losing Sydor's $8.8 mil / over the next three years also frees up salary space for the next few years, which we can use to help keep Nash, Klesla, and our other young studs happy and wearing the CBJ sweater.
I just think that they could of gotten a little more for Sydor than a good prospect that has struggled and a draft pick in a weak draft.
