Good call on having a spare helmet. I have a Reebok 4k that I use for coaching and my main is an Easton E700 with a Reakt cage. I wouldn't get too hung up on worrying about protection though, all helmets pass the same certification so it's more about comfort.

People have been raving about the CCM protective stuff. IMO, try on everything in the store that you can.

I can tell you the new Warrior stuff is really good. I wasn't thrilled with their stuff from 2-3 years ago but the newer Covert stuff is solid. I have a DT2 from last year and just picked up a DT4 LT last weekend. Obviously the DT4 is a price point and I wouldn't buy it for a main stick, but I think the DT1 and DT2 should be excellent. The weight, balance, and puck feel are phenomenal.
