Tampa is desperate for defensive depth. Smith would be a good fit. Sydor helps, but he won't be enough. When Darren Rumble is your emergency guy, you know you need help.

makes no sense for Tbay at all... Salo is a UFA after this year... Smith's contract is almost done too... and TBay isn't in a situation where they're looking for picks - even 1st rounders as they're trying to contend now.

all these deals do is increase the team's payroll (which they have been very strict about), while taking key/core roster players out and replacing them with ones not as good (Salo instead of Khabibulin?? and Kovalev a winger replacing Lecavalier??)... their defense is also fine right now with Sarich, Cullimore and Kubina who can all play Smith's role - and all 3 have been playing well (well Sarich not so much this year, but he showed he has skills from his play last year).
