For a couple of years it was LeClair, and I think that Sather beleived that Chris Simon could do the same thing that John did for Eric, create space. The difference between John LeClair and Chris Simon is quite a bit of talent. Simon had a great year in 2000 scoring nearly 30 goals, and for whatever reason people think he's that player now instead of what he has been his entire career, a slightly more talented version of Donald Brashear, and not a watered down John LeClair or Brendan Shanahan.

I don't think pairing him with Jagr would even be a good idea since Jagr doesn't intimidate anybody with his physical play. He may distract people from Lindros with his skill, but he will not put people on their butts the way a big physical winger could. Lindros needs a guy who can intimidate physically and score big goals, which is like you said, an extremely rare commodity.
