If the Canucks were smart...

They would swing a deal similar to this...

To Vancouver: Alexei Zhamnov and Steve McCarthy

To Chicago: Jarko Ruutu, Fedor Fedorov, and the rights to RJ Umberger

It could work out for both teams in both the long and short term. Zhamnov will help the Canucks in the playoffs and down the stretch. If he likes Vancouver, might re-sign there for less than the 4.5 million he is currently making. With Zhamnov locked up for an extra couple years and Steve McCarthy on their blueline, Vancouver would be all about the depth.

Chicago gets younger and adds to their rebuilding phase. The Ruutu brothers would feed off each other and Fedorov might get a better opportunity to crack the line-up and he would have more Europeans to mesh with.
If Chicago could sign Umberger they could secure another young talented peice to the puzzle.

The Deal works for me...what do you guys think?
