The Peter Forsberg Sweepstakes have begun in earnest, less than three weeks before the February 27 trade deadline.

Sources tell TSN that Flyer GM Paul Holmgren is contacting teams he believes Forsberg - who has a no-trade clause - would consent to play for if traded.

That group of teams numbers no more than 5 or 6 and appears to be entirely Western Conference based.

Sources say Vancouver, Anaheim, San Jose, Nashville and Detroit are thought to be acceptable trade destinations and Holmgren has been busy contacting those teams to see what the potential return would be.

Initial reactions are that the Flyers' asking price is high for a rental player who has had many injury issues. It's said the Flyers are asking for a top young player plus a high draft pick, likely a second rounder, in exchange for Forsberg, who is an unrestricted free agent at season's end.
Do we even have anyone outside of Price that people consider a top young player? Would they accept Kostitsyn or Ryan White or Ben Maxwell or Higgins or Fischer? Who, damnit!?
