I see what's happening here as the cherishing of a local boy. Regardless of background, the media and even we, the fans, take homegrown talent to heart. We look at guys like Lecavalier, Lemieux, and even guys trying to break in like Brandon Reid and we are proud. But the thing with Montreal is, the pressure on that homegrown talent is huge. When things go well, guys like Ribeiro will be held in such high esteem, but the pressure to perform will then exist.

I remember at one point, a hockey trading card company put up signs saying "Trade Roy". Hell, the same media that clamored when Pierre Turgeon arrived here basically chased him out. When things go sour for Ribeiro, and they will, (every single player experiences slumps - I'm not saying he's gonna suck, just that he'll eventually go through a rough period) the media will give him a really hard time.
