It's a rather primative way of stopping you from hitting a
of sites that are problematic. The IPs of which are always changing and newer malicious sites are always popping up.
The better option is patch your OS frequently, run AV software (and keep it up to date), scan for malware from time to time and don't surf questionable sites (oh and avoid file sharing programs like the plague).
