actually it is not as much as you might think, at least not from our perspective.

parent was in jrs not our ahl/mil. we have 3~4 guys in milwaukee that can play for us(klein and brookbank already have as call-ups). even if we get rid of our two oldest D-men we still have depth. parent was drafted as depth and BPA(either him or another d-man were destined to be trade bait). not to mention parent has a bulging disc problem that has limited his play in jrs(this is something that can go on for years). at best he would have been a call-up next year.

upshall never really jelled here in nashville, probably because of injuries and being stuck on the 3rd line. only 14 games this year for him and 3 pts. maybe he will blossom in philly but for whatever reason he didn't seem to work here in nashville. maybe he needs a better dealer to get going, but we didn't have such until foppa and again his play didn't deserve to be on the top 2 lines. at present radulov showed more promise as a winger(the reason why graig said he would not have done the deal had rads been involved).

the draft picks: with any luck we will go deep into the POs and that means a lower pick for us. this years class isn't supposed to be that deep, so if you are going to give up a #1 you should do it in a year where that wasn't going to mean as much.

plus the side benifit is that neither Det, Anh, SJ or Van gets foppa and all of the talent we traded away goes to the EC(so it won't be haunting us, probably the reason why the pens and sabres fans don't like the deal). we get a center for the 3rd line which we needed(great matchups for us) and we don't lose anything for this year or next years run).
