In the short term it's a good deal for Ottawa as Schastlivy wasn't doing much for them and they added some toughness which is very helpful on a relatively slight Senators roster.
They also add some more veteran leadership, another part that I feel is slightly missing from the Sens.
Simpson should do very well as a #5/6 D-Man for them, a bit slow but I don't think that'll hurt them much.

Schastlivy wasn't doing much for them so he's not a big loss at all.

They get much older in the deal and Simpson isn't a guy I see them keeping around in the long term.
While Schastlivy hasn't lived up to his potential as yet he could still be a 2'nd ine forward in the future, and should be a solid 3rd liner at bare minimum.

All considered I've got mixed feelings on the deal from the Sens point of view. Clearly a worthwhile deal for Washington to make however.
