It's important to note that Kalinin's value across the league may be no higher than a steady 3/4 with decent offensive upside. But the fact of the matter is that he's all the Sabres have in terms of a stable future on the backend. And I mean ALL they have! Thus, if Kalinin is dealt without a top pairing d-man coming back the other way, I don't think the term "franchise suicide" is much of an exaggeration.
