I guess I just don't trust Sather to make a sound hockey decision anymore.
its a strategically sound hockey decision that is consistent with the organization's alleged desire to build a homegrown core of aggressive, highly competitive players.
you have just traded a middling, 27 year old 3rd line player on the last year of his current deal for a 20 year old who has the skill to be a top 6 winger and plays with the kind of sandpaper and intensity that will allow him to fit quite nicely with hartford's core, which in time will hopefully be the core of the rangers.
i believe someone here described this trade as a no-risk, high reward deal - i think that's the most appropriate characterization. at worst, bourret never makes it out of the AHL and we would've spent a 3rd round pick and 20 games of dupuis' service on bourret's fairly high potential. i'd say this is a deal that demonstrates the organization's commitment to not repeat the mistakes of the past.
