So you would rather go into the next 3 weeks with Antero and Little?

We have to be the #1 or #2 seed to make the Finals. You can't play 3 tough series and haev anything left when you get to the Cup.

Who else should they have brought in?

Fernandez? He has shown by his comments in Minnesota that he is not a team player, and will complain if he is not the #1.

Biron? He would have cost us as much as Burke, if not more because of the Sabres playoff push (or the one they think they are making)

Kolzig? He would want to start, and not sure how he would be taken in the locker room if he started complaining?

Khabibulin? No thank you.

Burke? He comes in, is best friends with Esche, and isn't going to complain or bash his best friend.

Maybe we did overpay. But we have plenty of center depth. Plenty of it. This trade does nothing but bring us imediate help, and with the cost of a player who is easily replaced on the 4th line. If we were 2 or 3 centers deep, then I might not like the trade. But we had 5 centers on the roster, and 2 more in junior for future replenishment. And Clarke won't hesitate to play Peter White, god knows why. Plus Clarke doesn't feel that there will be a season next year, so why not go for it now? And if Esche stinks it up in the playoffs, we have an experienced back up.
