I don't think that is the case at all. Clarke relies on his scouts, who tell him things, and as a GM, you have to have faith in your scouts.

But I think that he got traded because he was not going to be productive for the rest of the season. Players who hold out or miss a significant part of camp or beginning of the season are very unlikely to have any significant contribution. Clarke knows he probably has one last shot to win with this roster, and traded a valuable, non contributing piece of it to get a short term answer to try and win the cup now.

I think this shows that Clarke wants to win now, and knows that he has depth in his organization to replace this piece down the line.
