There was the 1971 hockey movie Face-Off that did very well in Canada, but bombed badly south of the border. It was a hockey and love story about handsome young stud meets Grateful Dead type 60's chick and their conflicting lifestyles. It does feature the late great Canadian actor John Vernon as the tough dictatorial coach and had Maple Leafs defenseman Jim McKenny as the one ice body double. Not a great movie, but it does offer some great vintage footage of hockey before player wore helmets.
